Caught in the Middle Ground
As a Chinese American woman I feel an internal and external strife of being caught between two cultures. While I am proud of being both Chinese and American, there is an inherent divide always present, whether it is with appearance or with the food I eat. The duality of growing up with two cultures prevents me from solely identifying with one culture. Ultimately, my values and beliefs are the outcome of a blending of my Chinese heritage and my American upbringing. In this project I blend the words I am American with the Chinese characters meaning I am Chinese.
